Peru Moda 2009

Peru Moda 2009 New York. Paris. Milan. These are the cities that come to mind when you think of fashion and haute couture. But what about Peru? Yes, Lima, Peru is quickly becoming a fashion capital, thanks in part to the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce (GWFCC). The trade association was recently invited by the Commercial Office of the Government of Peru to visit Lima for its 12th International Trade Show, Apparel, Accessories and Jewelry Manufacturers: Peru Moda 2009.

DSCF1340 The 12th edition of Peru Moda 2009 featured the participation of more than 1,000 exporters and importers from the fashion industries in Peru, the United States, the European Union, Latin America and Asia. The goal of Peru Moda is to provide direct contact between Peruvian companies with potential clients and GWFCC members, which consists of fashion designers and retailers from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

"The entire Peru Moda experience was fascinating. I was particular impressed with the Young Creator of the World design contest, in which I was a judge. This amazing contest was unlike any other fashion design competion that I had seen, especially the alpaca designs." states Christine Brooks-Cropper, president of the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce.

Peru has always been a very fashion centric place. Lots and lots of great clothing comes from there; people don't think of it because it happens to not be as ridiculously expensive as, say, Paris.
