Sure, your baby is the apple of your eye, which might explain why apples are her favorite fruit. According to a recent Pediatrics article, apples were the preferred fruit for children ages 2 through 19-years-old. Fortunately, more than half of those surveyed (53%) consumed their fruit whole (which has the greatest health benefits) as opposed to children (34%) who downed juice drinks instead.
Of course, a diet rich in a rainbow of fruits and vegetables is optimal for children’s health. It is associated with a decreased risk of diabetes, stroke, cancers and other deadly conditions. But if your little one will only stick to her Granny Smith’s, you can try adding in other healthy nutrients and proteins into her purees, such as spinach, sweet potato, or even chicken for a healthier meal.
