From Homeless to Secret Millionaire: Dani Johnson

It seems like a movie of the week. A young girl, broke and homeless, launches a business out of her car—and becomes a millionaire in less than two years. Dani Johnson overcame insurmountable odds (a horrific childhood, poverty, and even living out of her car) to create a multi-million dollar empire. The mom of five (and recent grandma!) spoke exclusively with Celebrity Parents about her childhood, the keys to her success as a mom, and what wealth truly means.

CELEBRITY music: Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights' New "Tofurky Song"

Our friend and recent cover celeb Joanie Leeds has a new song out, just in time for Thanksgiving. The title is, appropriately enough, "Tofurky Song." Says Joanie:

"Like Adam Sandler's 'Chanukah Song' made in jest for those who don't celebrate Christmas, I wrote the 'Tofurky Song' especially for those vegetarian and vegan kids who don't eat turkey on Thanksgiving. Though even carnivores will be shaking their "turkey tushies" after watching the new video for 'Tofurky Song'!"

Speaking with him, it seems that life has imitated art, and lends itself to make the child in us believe that somewhere, Sesame Street does really exist. Emilio spoke exclusively with Celebrity Parents about growing up in Mexicali, our enduring love for Sesame Street, and landing the role of a lifetime.

Did you always want to be an artist?

I wanted to be an artist since third grade. After high school, I graduated from the Art Institute of Florida. I knew that I loved children’s art, and that I wanted to go into that or work for greeting cards. I did have an offer from Hallmark, but I didn’t want to move to Kansas City, MO, where they were based. So I became an art director and did it for six years. I won awards in design, and then I started my family. My son was born and I knew that this was my opportunity to do kids’ books.
