Toy Time: Rubik's Race

Rubiks-race

Fans of the frustrating 80’s toy Rubik’s Cube know that unless you were in Mensa, it was nearly impossible to get all the colored squares to match. Unless you peeled the stickers off and then you “won” the game. Not that we ever did that or anything.

Now, the Cube has gotten a whole lot cooler with Rubik’s Race, a fast-paced game where the object is to win the race to copy a random 3x3 square pattern of 9 colored squares by sliding the tiles on your side of the game base. It’s fun because you can play with a partner and it also has a Battleship vibe to it. It (almost) makes us want to break out the original Rubik’s Cube and play/peel again ($19.99, rubiks.com).

Take Me Back to the 80's With....Ferris Bueller's Day Off Super Bowl Commercial!

Ferris Bueller

After 25 years, Ferris Bueller has resurfaced! Actor Matthew Broderick is set to reprise his most famous movie role as the title character.

A ten-second clip was posted on YouTube, showing the actor recreating one of the most popular lines from the film with a twist.

Fans of the film will most definitely recognize Yello’s “Oh Yeah” playing in the background as Bueller/Broderick declares: “How can I handle work on a day like today?"

The date 2/5/12 flashes on the screen, which could mean that this teaser is going to be a Super Bowl commercial.

Released in 1986, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was directed by John Hughes and went on to become an 80’s classic. It starred Broderick as the film's protagonist as well as Mia Sara, now 44, who played Bueller’s girlfriend Sloane and Alan Ruck, now 55, as the hapless Cameron.

Take Me Back to the 80's With...80's iPhone Case

80s-retro-iphone-caseAs technology advances and makes electronics itty bitty, there's something to be said for their clunkier, chunkier prehistoric relatives. That's why we're loving the new 80's iPhone case from Thumbs Up. Back in the 80's this was THE ultimate status symbol. So have the best of both worlds--simply slip your iPhone into the custom-make holder, put on your best Don Johnson/Miami Vice threads, and gab away.

CELEBRITY 80s: Sharpie 80's Glam Pens

Sharpie-80s-glamWhile trolling the aisles at my local Staples, I found the Sharpie 80's Glam Limited Edition Markers and almost fell on the floor. The markers, a gorgeous collection of 80's neon colors, have the most FAB names, like Leg Warmer Orange, Valley Girl Violet, Argyle Green, Jellie Pink, and (sigh), Banana Clip Yellow. They're quick drying, and there's even a metallic silver marker, which is totally signature 80's. Even the packaging features awesome 80's artwork. Sharpie hit the nostalgia factor right on the head; I feel like Samantha Baker from Sixteen Candles every time I use the Sharpie 80's Glam Markers ($6.99, sharpie.com).

CELEBRITY 80's: Rubik's Cube Speaker

Rubik's_Cube_SpeakerWe are seriously crushing on the old school Rubik’s Cube-esque speaker from Pylones (pylons-usa.com). The only caveat; you can’t spin this 3D mechanical puzzle, which might be good if you couldn’t master the Cube back in the 80’s, either ($41, pylones-usa.com).

CELEBRITY 80's: Caboodles

Caboodles
No self-respecting 80's girl was without a Caboodles. The ultimate in Scrunchie storage, Caboodles housed all the glittery lipglosses and neon nailpolishes that a tween could ever want (mine sure did!). Today, Caboodles is still the leader in girly stuff storage, with an updated look but still holding true to its adorable roots. We are hearting the In My Case (pictured at left), with removable trays and dividers. Caboodles makes the 11-year-old in us want to whip out our blue eyeliner and start crimping our hair (caboodles.com).
