Behind the Scenes with Davy Jones

Ever since I was two years-old, I have loved Davy Jones. Just loved him. By far the funniest and most adorable Monkee, Davy just emanated that perfect mix of goodness and naughtiness that has had me and a legion of other girls/women totally in love with him for over 40 years.

Don’t believe me? Well, I once donated one month’s salary to the Jerry Lewis Telethon when I saw Davy performing “Daydream Believer” on the program. At the time, I was going to college full-time, interning crazy hours at Sassy Magazine, and working in a supermarket. I needed the money for textbooks and anthologies. My parents were livid.

But I digress.

When the opportunity arose to actually interview and shoot Davy for our First Anniversary issue, I was so happy I cried. Yep, I cried. And then we spent the next few months trying to schedule the cover shoot. After all, Davy is super busy performing all over the country. When we finally got to shoot at his beautiful home in Pennsylvania, we met his wife, Jessica Pacheco. As a couple, Davy and Jessica were wonderful and funny. The shoot was unbelievable, and Davy gave me a ton of parting gifts, including his books, music, sheet music to his beautiful song “I’ll Love You Forever”, and…shellac for my aunt’s vintage wooden chair.

Don’t ask. With Davy Jones, it’s just one lovely surprise after another, including this impromptu acoustic version of “Daydream Believer”. I almost cried. Again. 🙂

Until next week,
